Happy Pride Month! 🌈
This Saturday and next Saturday (June 3rd and 10th) will be very special days for our DJC community as we call our group B’nei Mitzvah students to the Torah. To mark this milestone, students are traditionally gifted with a kiddush cup of their own, and this year we are thrilled to present them with beautiful handmade pieces from @meldorfpottery . Mazal tov!
Join your community in person this evening for a special Kabbalat Shabbat service to honour our very own Kathy Miller. As many of you know, Kathy has been our office manager since the early days of the DJC. Kathy’s contributions have been so much more than a title can convey – she has been a true builder of our community. It will be a night of prayer, song, humour, nosh and surprises as we wish Kathy a well-deserved retirement!
We are so looking forward to seeing you this weekend! Join us on Friday for a special Kabbalat Shabbat service to honour our very own Kathy Miller on her retirement. It will be a night of prayer, song and surprises! On Saturday morning you are invited to our ever popular Shabbat Yoga and Schmooze with Rabbi Ilyse. You can then keep the Jewish movement going on Sunday with Jewish Folk Dancing! No prior experience is required for either of these programs. What a weekend - we can't wait!
Head back to the corner of Sinai and Spadina for the renewed Downtown Tikkun Leil Shavuot: All-Night Jewish Learning Festival! We’ll be back in the building alongside our fellow congregations and Jewish community organizations all night long. This year’s program opens at 7 PM with a folk concert of “Songs from the Foot of the Mountain,” directed by our own @anniematan . From 8:30 PM until Sunrise, we gather to learn in the community, with lots of choices of sessions — panels of rabbis, music and improv workshops, lectures, discussions, and more. And, as always, cheesecake!
That's a wrap for Jewish Studies 2022/2023! Thank you so much to our amazing Education Director @dralysserich and our incredible team of teachers and assistants. And thank you to our students and families for your beautiful dedication and enthusiasm. A special shoutout to @spapular and @iamstripedhorse who will be leaving us after teaching in our school for more years than we can count. We'll miss you!
