Virtual Tour of the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School
October 5 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Since May, over 1,000 bodies, mainly children, have been discovered on the sites of residential schools across Canada. Part of Canada’s shameful history of genocide, it is believed that more burial grounds will be found.
As part of continuing to develop our own awareness and commitment to anti-colonialism and anti-oppression, please join the Danforth Multi-Faith Commons (East End United Regional Ministry, Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation and Danforth Jewish Circle) on October 5, 2021 from 7:30 – 9:30 PM for a virtual tour of the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School.
The tour will cover the school’s 140-year history, including interviews with survivors, and will conclude with a Debrief Q and A session with a staff person from the Woodland Cultural Centre. October 5th comes a few days after Orange Shirt Day which was created to commemorate and witness the residential school experience, to honour the healing process of survivors, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.
Registration is limited to 40 people and a minimum $10 donation is requested. No one will be turned away for inability to financially contribute.
To register, please email Karen Somerville at email@example.com, providing your name and the number of tickets that you would like. For payment, and to reduce the workload on our Treasurer, please send an e-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org or send a cheque (or drop off cash) payable to East End United Regional Ministry, c/o 67 Arundel Avenue, Toronto, M4K 3A3.
