Simchat Torah Outdoor Klezmer Dance Party!

September 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Our live Klezmer Band, Broken Bagel Scene, will lead us in boisterous music for safely distanced Simchat Torah hakafot and dancing.

Join in aliyot to celebrate reaching the very end of the year’s Torah reading cycle and starting fresh from the beginning again. We’ll share blessings for endings and new beginnings of all kinds. There will also be an opportunity to recite Mourner’s Kaddish, supported by the community.

Bring a mask (and a kippah, if you have one!).

*Make a colourful Simchat Torah flag or your own Torah – https://pjlibrary.org/beyond-books/pjblog/august-2017/7-fun-things-to-do-with-kids-on-simchat-torah!

*For a more sophisticated project, read the first chapter of Genesis/Bereshit (https://www.sefaria.org/Genesis.1?lang=bi&aliyot=0), choose one verse that intrigues you. Click on the verse and discover different interpretations of it. Use the verse as inspiration for flag or Torah scroll or other art making.

All ages welcome! Light refreshments will be served. Meet at Riverdale Park East, near the Broadview/Langley intersection.

SCHEDULE:

6PM – Candle lighting, kiddush, getting to know each other

6:20 PM – Pizza

6:45 PM – Live Klezmer Party with Broken Bagel Scene! Interspersed between the 7 Hakafot (ritual circling with the Torah) will be an Aliyah for reading the end of the Torah and an Aliyah for reading the very beginning!
