We Will Provide: a variety of nibbles for before the meal (especially for young Seder goers) and appetizers including: hard-boiled eggs, gefilte fish, and a vegetarian broth-based soup with matzah balls. We will also provide a main course salmon dish and Kosher for Passover* baked goods for dessert.
What you will Bring: a “Kosher for Passover*” vegetarian dish that serves 6-8 people. Due to sensitivities and allergies, please attach a list of ingredients to your dish and indicate whether it is “Ashkenazi-friendly” OR “Sephardic-friendly” (see explanation below).
If you are able, please also bring your own plate, fork, knife, spoon, cup, and cloth napkin so we waste as little as possible (see ‘Eco-Kashrut’ explanation below).
* What ‘Kosher for Passover’ means in our Community:
The following ingredients are ARE NOT Kosher for Passover across the board – Products with wheat, barley, rye, oats and spelt (unless they are marked “Kosher for Passover” – like matza, matza flour, meaning that they have not been in water for more than 18 minutes – the time it takes to begin fermentation/become chametz). NOTE – quinoa is kosher for Passover. It’s a fruit 🙂
Traditionally, Ashkenazim also don’t eat kitniyot/legumes, but Sephardim do. This includes anything made with eg. dried or fresh beans, peas, lentils, soy, corn, etc. The same holds true for rice.
You are welcome to bring foods that follow Ashkenazi OR Sephardic practice. PLEASE indicate on your label – Ashkenazi-friendly OR Sephardic-friendly so people can make informed choices.
Eco-Kashrut Liberation: If you are able, please bring your own plate, fork, knife, spoon, cup, and cloth napkin so we waste as little as possible. We will have compostable disposables available.
Sharing our Abundance: We are also asking people to bring a non-perishable item for the Bethany Church, Food Bank.
