DJC Movie Night – Lenny
February 11 @ 6:45 pm - 9:30 pm

This is an online event
Lenny is an Interview-style biography of controversial and pioneering stand-up comedian Lenny Bruce. The film traces Bruce from his beginnings as a Catskills comic to his later underground popularity based on his anti-establishment politics and his scatological humor.
It jumps between various sections of Bruce’s life, including scenes of when he was in his prime and the burned-out, strung-out performer who, in the twilight of his life, used his nightclub act to pour out his personal frustrations.
Lenny develops a near-messianic complex which fuels both his comedy genius and his talent for self-destruction. Worn out by a lifetime of tilting at establishment windmills, Lenny Bruce dies of a morphine overdose in 1966.
Released in 1974 it was directed by Bob Fosse and it stars Dustin Hoffman and Valerie Perrine. It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor and Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay adaptation and Best Cinematography at the 1975 Academy Awards.
Discussion begins at 6:45 with the movie following. We’ll then re-join after the film for a fuller conversation. The movie is 1hr 51min.
