DJC Havurah: The Hebrew Priestess Book Discussion

January 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every month that begins at 7:00 pm on day Third of the month, repeating until February 24, 2022

This Havurah group is a continuation from last year – (All are welcome to join) – Let’s continue to read, discuss, experiment and explore together The Hebrew Priestess book by Rabbi Kohenet Jill Hammer and Kohenet Taya Shere.

Women have played a role in Jewish religious leadership from the days of the Torah, even before Miriam the Prophetess and Deborah the Judge. The Hebrew Priestess tells the stories of these women, often reading between the lines of the Torah and Talmud to rediscover the women that rabbinic editors tried to erase. In this group we will weave together these historical antecedents of these priestesses, exploring ancient and new visions of Jewish women’s spiritual leadership and our own personal experiences of ourselves/theirselves embarking on our own new spiritual exploration.

We will begin with reading chapter 8: Mother – Priestess. You are welcome to read the prior chapters to get caught up or to not. The discussion will be rich and full no matter what.

We recommend purchasing the book for individual study and reflection, (however this is not a requirement).

Please note: this group has a limited subsidy for those who want to join but have financial barriers in purchasing the book. Please contact the organizers for more information.

Please RSVP to Sheri and Tamar to receive the meeting link.
