Join the Danforth Multifaith Commons (Danforth Jewish Circle, @eeuchurch and Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation) for a discussion about existing programs that are working to reduce food insecurity and new ideas for moving forward! Our speakers are: Rev. Jim Parker (Director, Bethany Baptist Food Bank), Erica Appiah (Program Director, Nourish - Glen Rhodes Food Bank), John Klein-Geltink (Vice-President, Operation Sharing, Woodstock), and Diane Dyson (Vice-President, Research and Advocacy, Daily Bread Food Bank). We are so excited to introduce a new Shabbat experience where our creative process becomes a spiritual practice! This intergenerational series brings together folks 55+ and youth ages 14-18, using the @jewishstudioproject methodology, to imagine a more just world through a combination of Beit Midrash - the study of texts from Jewish tradition and the contemporary world - and art-making. This is a space of possibilities, where everyone will have a chance to draw, paint, collage, or assemble - using whatever medium delights you each day. No art experience is required; it’s all free-form exploration and play. Come to one or all of our three monthly 2-hour workshops! The DJC is undertaking a process to hire a permanent Rabbi by Spring 2023. Are you an experienced ordained rabbi, or have equivalent skills or experience leading a Jewish community? Are you a brave leader who is willing to engage in hard conversations and wrestle with tough issues together with our community? A people person at heart that recognizes the essential, long-lasting value in members contributing to a community that offers them a sense of belonging? As the DJC has now returned to in-person services, this week's service will be honouring all our courageous 2020/2021 students who became B’nei Mitzvah outside of our sanctuary during the pandemic. Our students will be welcomed IRL as Jewish adults to the DJC community with a group aliyah and parent blessing. All are welcome to join for spirited singing, soulful prayer, and engaging Torah learning, both in person and online. Check your weekly newsletter for details!
