An Update on our Jewish Studies Program

Dear DJC Community,

I’m pleased to report that our education programs are all up and running, despite the difficult times we find ourselves in. Now, more than ever, our students need community, and I’m so proud of the creative and connected programming our teachers have been putting together throughout the pandemic. In the early fall, we offered two streams of learning for our SK to grade 6 students – online or outdoors. As of mid-October, we’ve moved all of our programming online. So far, our highlights have included learning about the High Holydays, our trip to the sukkah with Rabbi Miriam, singing along online with a new musical guest, and school-wide programming last week in which we were led by our special guest artist Aviva Brown (who writes -among other things- Jewish picture books featuring Jews of Colour and diverse families).

Our B’nei Mitzvah program has also begun, and we are grateful to have our fabulous, creative, and dedicated teacher Mira Lyonblum once again at the helm. Please join us on November 28 for our first ceremony this year, in which students from last year’s class will become b’nei mitzvah!

Lastly, I want to thank our teachers, teenaged classroom assistants, students, and families, as well as Rabbi Miriam and the entire DJC community for supporting our education programs during this intense time. We are so grateful to be able to stay connected and to continue learning together.

-Alysse Rich (Director of Education)
