The program includes one full-day intensive and one evening follow-up session.

Follow-Up Sessions:  Thursday, August 17th, OR Thursday, September 7th {7:00 – 9:30 pm at EUC}


Topics for Full-Day Intensive:

  • What is Torah? Introduction to the arc of the Torah narrative.
  • What is revelation? A close look at the Sinai narrative and different ways of interpreting/relating to the receiving of Torah (i.e. What is commentary and interpretation?)
  • Asher kidshanu (You have commanded us). What is mitzvah/commandment?  What are different ways of relating to commandment/mitzvah rooted in different beliefs or orientations?
  • What is bracha (blessing)? – words of blessing, prayer. What are different ways of relating to God, God-language, and words of prayer?

Topics for Evening Session:

  • What are the requirements of a Shaliach tzibbur/a representative of the community and the Jewish people?  Roles include:  lighting candles on behalf of the community, hagbah (lifting the Torah), gelila (rolling the Torah), opening the ark, ritually carrying the Torah, chanting from the Torah, having an individual aliyah.
  • How does one lead the various rituals with knowledge, intention, and skill?

This program is also ideal for anyone interested gaining a greater understanding about Torah, blessings, and rituals.
