WEAVING OUR STORIES

WEEKEND RETREAT

The Danforth Jewish Circle

Lead by Eliza Kukla
Located at the Ecology Retreat Centre in Hockley Valley
Friday, April 28th – Sunday April 30

We are planning an Adult Weekend Retreat with our Rabbi, Eliza Kukla. She will lead us in exploring personal narratives in a Jewish historical context. This theme will be woven into the programming throughout the weekend through small group discussion, torah study, and experiential workshops. We will also include in our programming a Shabbat service on Friday night, meditation, yoga, a drumming workshop, a Saturday evening music circle, and massage therapy. This will be a rich program that speaks to body, mind and soul.

In addition to Eliza, our Program Contributors include:

Ana Bodner is a registered psychologist who leads workshops and seminars on stress management, meditation and yoga, expressive arts therapy, spiritual psychology and corporate well being. She has a private counseling practice, and she also teaches and provides consultation for community and corporate agencies.

Joanne Hunter is a long time member of DJC who works as Nurse Practitioner by day. She has an interest in women’s health, complementary health therapies and counselling. Joanne has practiced various types of meditation and yoga for many years and, more recently, trained with Jon Kabat Zinn in Mindfulness based Stress Reduction. She is currently teaching a meditation series at the Artist’s Health Centre, Toronto Western Hospital.

Ellen Brakel is a registered Massage and Cranial Sacral Therapist. Over the past 12 years she has studied, mentored and practiced with many eastern and western healers to align and integrate the physical, mental, emotional & spiritual body. Ellen will meet guests at the introduction session on Friday evening with a sign up sheet for body work and treatment session for Saturday and Sunday. Guests can sign up for half hour or one hour treatments. Ellen’s fee is $80/hour and $50/half hour. Her website is: www.selfcarejourneys.com.

Jamie Andrews will facilitate a Djembe Drumming Workshop with the charismatic and expressive “Prince of the Percussion World”…the Djembe Drum. Drumming has been at the center of gatherings throughout much of history and time. Through building and strengthening interpersonal communication in the context of a common goal and supportive shared experience, it is a significant tool for community building. Using a mixture of West African drumming, vocalization and movement, Jamie promises to take you to the depths of your soul, bring you to the outer limits of jubilation, and release your true inner rhythms.
