AGM UPDATE
The big news this time around is our upcoming AGM. With 3 Board positions being vacated, we have put extra effort into ensuring there is both continuity and renewal. A search process led by a joint Board/member nominating committee has yielded three excellent new Board members: Allen Flaming, Melissa Kluger and Karen Robbins. We are delighted! You can review their bios in a letter mailed today, or better yet, join us at the AGM on March 30th and say hello to your proposed new Board members!

DJC MAHJ MAVENS
Maven:
American Heritage Dictionary
ma·ven also ma·vin
n. A person who has special knowledge or experience; an expert. [Yiddish meyvn, from Hebrew mêbîn, active participle of hêbîn, to understand, derived stem of bîn, to discern; see byn in Semitic roots.]
After months of scouring Toronto to find a Mahjong teacher (including an almost success in the Air Canada Centre ladies room at the Dancing with the Stars show) and a great debate on whether or not we could possibly learn from either a book or the Internet (what would a gathering of Jewish people be without great debate), a very short discussion on what type of Mahjong we would play (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Old Jewish Lady?…Old Jewish Lady of course!) as well as the discovery that Mahj cards photocopied in black and white are useless and that Mahjong consulting can be quite lucrative (we are after all an entrepreneurial people…maybe that will be our project next year), the 9 inaugural Mahj Mavens are cracking and bamming. Laughing ourselves silly as well!
We’ll keep you posted!
